En Route to TX with the USO and NCS

I was contacted by Jeff Bacon of the National Cartoonist Society a few weeks ago, asking me if I'd be interested in flying to Texas with a group of cartoonists to draw for/entertain wounded soldiers at the Brooke Army Medical Center.

Brooke is where the military sends its burn patients.  In years past, the terrorists began burying petroleum canisters next to the IEDs so the explosions would be more like a napalm attack.  Brooke is also one of the centers of excellence for amputee treatment.

I'll be drawing soldiers there for three days, along with cartoonists Jeff Keane (Family Circus), Rick Kirkman (Baby Blues), Bill Hinds (Tank MacNamara), to name of few.  Needles to say I was honored to be even asked, as these are true heroes at this facility.  I'm not really sure what to expect, other than an overwhelming experience.  I'll try to post some while I'm there, that all depends on the computer situation.

out about, updates

Wow! This is really awesome what you guys are doing. The soldiers will really appreciate this - it is such a cool unique idea. Thanks for being part of the volunteer group and using your talent for our soldiers. PS Your sister (Jennifer) directed me to your link. I'm her friend from work - my students and I collected over 500 items for the USO Lambert Field on MLK Day. Posted by Liz on January 20 at 7:27 PM
We'll have to keep Liz's students posted on the work you do with the soldiers. I'll keep sending Liz updates from your blog. Posted by Jennifer S. on January 20 at 9:44 PM
