Caricature master David Levine: 1926-2009

A huge influence on my work died yesterday. David Levine was one of the old school masters, from the Golden Age of commercial humorous illustration.
I'm still out of town, and don't have the facilities here to do a major post. In the next few days I'll write more about David and his art. In the meantime, here's a few samples from his impressive caricature portfolio.

In his later years he spent a lot of time at Coney Island, painting watercolors the scenery.

These are what impressed me the most, as they were done soley for his enjoyment, done long after he had established himself as a world class humorist.
